In the News - The Call of the Wild (a funny)

From a friend's E-Mail... Holy Bullwinkle.

Moose Captured After Boy Plays Saxophone

From Associated Press
December 20, 2005 9:02 PM EST

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A moose that had been wandering near Sioux Falls and other parts of eastern South Dakota in recent weeks has been captured and taken to the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls.

Veterinarian Dayton Williams of Sioux Falls brought down the animal with a tranquilizer gun around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday as it moved through snow-covered corn stubble near Interstate 29, south of Sioux Falls.

The animal was loaded into a horse trailer and transported to the zoo.

Connie Evenson of Sioux Falls was among those who saw the moose. She said she noticed movement in her backyard Monday afternoon as she watched television in her living room.

"At first I thought it was somebody's dog," Evenson said. "Then I got up to look out of our bank of windows, and it was much bigger."

She called to her family and took photos of the animal as it came within 20 feet of their house.

"We thought it was kind of funny, but our son, Matt, was practicing his baritone saxophone and had his window open," Evenson said. "We wondered if it was like the call of the wild that attracted the moose to our house."

State Game, Fish and Parks officers had been tracking the moose for a couple of months and decided to catch it to prevent it from becoming a public safety threat, officials said.

"Being it was staying so close to Sioux Falls for such a long time ... we were concerned a little bit with the public's safety," said Arden Petersen, a regional supervisor for the GF&P.

The moose won't be on public display at the zoo, officials said. Instead, they hope to calm it down and relocate the animal.

Here's the Tiger Rag section. Piano, tuba, trombones, and trumpet on a wide assortment of CafePress merchandise - to wear, and not to wear. Wears and wares.

The Tiger Rag Piano is available on black T-Shirts, as well as on the full range of other CafePress merch. The Tiger Rag tuba, trumpet, and trombones are not available on black tees, yet. Not sure if they can be? A technical, black-tee issue. Stay tuned.

Music Black T-shirts! : CHM Design Store - Music Stuff & More : CafePress.com

This is a good way to let you see the music black shirts. Good old "Blog this."

First off, hope you're enjoying the Holiday Season, and my apologies at being away for so long!

Would you believe I've been too busy making new music graphics and merchandise? There's truth to that.

The CafePress black shirts turned out to be more beta than any of us had expected. But, the production kinks have been smoothed out, and I have become aware of what works well according to the CafePress black shirt production, and what doesn't. I've been keeping a very close eye on the situation (along with putting in my two cents in along the way, at no surprise to anyone who knows me).

Please notice the black tee cleves added and notice the brand-new musical-instrument black tees. The trombone and the trumpet have just been added in "brass" and other colors. There's new pianos and new guitars. Don't miss "Pianos Gone Wild" - for all you tigers longing for a jaguar, you cool cats. I felt compelled to put a twist on the piano ivories (elephant tusks) and made them out of elephant skin instead. A little surreal.

More and more music black tees will be coming.

With my next posting I'll show you what's new on the not-black tee side of the store's Music Stuff. More new instruments, including - getting a little wild and surreal again - the Tiger Rag Musical Instruments (why stop with Tiger Rag Piano?). But, there's still more than that...

Find some Christmas Music in my Christmas Section

There's quite a bit of good Christmas music from - of all places - NORAD. These are well-performed, in their entirety, downloadable, and cover a wide variety of music - from "Santa Baby" to hymns. The performances are done by military bands, usually with vocalists as well.

Keep checking back I'm probably not done with the Christmas music links there.

Enjoy the Holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh, and have a happy Thanksgiving! Not all in the world is black T-shirts and selling. Wishing you a great day. Have good, safe travel - if you are traveling.

I'll be "Coming 'Round the Mountain" (okay, taking the 91 winding around/through the Santa Ana Mountains...). Yes, I actually do find that tune in my head when I travel to my family in Corona (Inland Empire, Riverside County).

Right now "Turkey in the Straw" is creeping into my head. And, of course, that old standard Thanksgiving hymn "We Gather Together."

For some Thanksgiving goodies visit the "Fun Page" (aka the Weekly Wazzup Page) on my website - find the Thanksgiving section in its Table of Contents.

BLACK T-Shirts!! (With music graphics, of course)

Okay, I'm perhaps a little overexcited.

Black T-shirts have arrived to CafePress. This means that black T-shirts have arrived to Music Stuff & More @ http://www.cafepress.com/chmdesign There already are a variety of very nice shirts available.

You can readily find treble clef and a handful of bass clef black T-shirts on the "Storefront", in the "Music Merchandise" area, and in the "Treble Clef" area within "Music Merchandise." There's also a sampling in "Sales & Features."

Expect many, many more black music shirts to come from me.

Note, also, that Spreadshirt is having a Black Friday promotion regarding their (and my) black T-shirts: http://www.spreadshirt.com/shop.php?sid=4503

Here's the cool black T-shirt...

...coming soon to...

CHM Design Store - Music Stuff & More

There's a similar treble clef in "metallic" dusty dark pink and in "metallic" dusty aqua on black shirts waiting in the back in beta.

PS: Note that little old hacker me finally got my mitts on this .jpg.

Black is in beta @ CafePress!

I've already created a black T-shirt with a "silver" treble clef on it. Looks real cool. I'd show it to you, but I haven't been able to save or link to the image. A beta thing, I'm sure.

Anyway, this is very promising. Plans are that I'll be converting as many of my music graphics which'll look cool on black as I can. Plus make some new white graphics. Then maybe some more graphics - entirely new ones - which'll look good on black.

Stay tuned. You know I'll let you know right away once the black music shirts are out of beta.

New Spreadshirt Store - CHM Music Stuff

We've now got BLACK. And dark brown (chocolate). And navy. Spreadshirt also has a few other products CafePress is not presently offering.

Yes, having tired of waiting on CafePress to come up with black shirts, as well as having customers ask about black shirts, I've opened a Spreadshirt store to fill the gap - CHM Music Stuff. Spreadshirt has some other qualities I appreciate as well, such as accepting vector graphics and providing gold and silver colors as printing options. And, white! And flock.

Right now there are ~80 products in the CHM Music Stuff store, which include many black T-shirts, dark brown T-shirts, black ringer T-shirts w/white trim, black sweatshirts, black jackets, with some white and navy apparel, a few decals. Almost all of it right now consist of treble clef and bass clef graphics, some in outline and some solid.

Featured here is the gold treble clef on a standard dark brown (chocolate) T-shirt. Click here for more information or to buy. [Note that this link has been fixed! Sorry about that.]

Note that this new Spreadshirt store is in addition to my already-present CafePress stores - it has not replaced them. To visit CHM Design Store - Music Stuff & More

New Piano/Keyboard graphic

Created at the same time as the first piano/keyboard graphic, but bigger and with fewer octaves.

The graphic is shown at left on the standard all-purpose white T-shirt.

There is, of course, an entire section full of this new graphic on all sorts of merchandise. Visit it now.

Music lets them find missing memories

Boston.com / News / Local / Music lets them find missing memories

Music therapy is interesting - and very effective.

As far as music and art cutting through the fog of dementia, my mother had dementia as the result of a stroke. Right to the very end of her life she enjoyed music and even sang the lyrics to the songs she enjoyed listening to on her Walkman.

Mom couldn't remember what year it was, yet she would remember lyrics.

Music Stuff/Music Page on my website news

Moved the Music Page to the website's main navigation bars.

Figured I might as well and should, since the site has so many music pages, and is so related to a Music Stuff & More store.

(If you feel as if you just saw the above - word for word for link - on another blog of mine, yes, you have, you are not seeing things. Just wanted to let you guys "over here" know about this as well, and, okay, I'm lazy/TGIF)

Stevie Wonder Official Site - His New Song for Katrina Relief

Stevie Wonder Official Site

Stevie performed his brand-new single "Shelter in the Rain" on CNN today. Stevie said he felt this song was given him by God. It is about God being one's shelter in the storms of life. It's a lovely song sung by a talented musician with a wonderful voice. I found it inspiring. Thank you, Stevie! Yet another good song from you. And a song especially needed for our times.

New Orleans Music Store

Since CafePress cut off additions to its Hurricane Katrina Charity Store long before the deadline it set, many of us shopkeepers have gotten left holding a bag of "Katrina Charity graphics" and wondering what to do with them. We made them, and we want to help.

So, I decided to open up a new basic store "New Orleans Music" stocked with many of the New Orleans graphics I created.

About the graphics: featured are the tuba, trombone, trumpet, and saxophone. Mostly Mardi Gras colors are used: blue-green, gold, purple. Some graphics include the text "New Orleans Music."

Again, the New Orleans Music store @ CafePress.

New Orleans Music Graphics

This is disgusting that I'm copying and pasting another blog into here. My apologies! I don't want this to happen again.

So, do you want to see some Katrina music graphics? These are only the beginnings: two for the CafePress Katrina Charity Shop @ http://www.cafepress.com/communitycares/

The graphics are about New Orleans Music. I do music and we all know how much New Orleans is about music - and what a contribution and joy New Orleans' music has been to all. It's about my gratitude, appreciation, and acknowledgement, that New Orleans music will always live no matter what. Love ya, New Orleans.

Now for the money part of all this: two graphics are donated, the rest will either be sold at the lowest pricing tier, or at no profit to me at all. This is not about ME making money - that would be too crass. I refuse to profit off others' tragedy.

Now, for the rest of the series at http://www.cafepress.com/chmdesign Most of it is hidden now, only one is showing tonight - http://www.cafepress.com/chmdesign/822857

Note also the "brass & sax" graphics in the Music Instruments section - http://www.cafepress.com/chmdesign/824771 This is also a series, but the other merch is not yet ready for primetime, so is still hidden. Now, the "brass & sax" are about my making money. ; ) Yes, the "brass & sax" are crass.

Okay, links time:

Is the affinity for music innate?

Is the affinity for music innate? | CNET News.com

An interesting international study about music begins.

Friday, August 26, 2005

"So, these three notes walk into a bar..." Enjoy a joke!

In spite of its reference to someone (a pitch yet) being "under a rest" : ) - this is a really clever joke. Here's something funny that actually makes sense. There's real music information here, folks, you'll notice.

So, these three notes walk into a bar: a C, an E-flat and a G.

The bartender looks up and says, "We don't serve minors."

So, the E-flat leaves and the other two have a fifth between them.

After a few drinks, the G was out flat and the experience was diminished.

Eventually, the C sobers up, sees one of his friends missing, the other one passed out and realizes to his horror that he's under a rest.

C was brought to trial, found guilty and convicted of contributing to the diminution of a minor.

Later he was sentenced to 10 years of DS without Coda at the Paul Williams, Neil Sedaka, Paul Anka, Wayne Newton, Bobby Vinton, Jerry Vale Correctional Facility.

Just updated the Music Page on my Website

There's been a lot happening in the "Music Stuff" part of CHM Design Store: new graphics, new merchandise. There was a lot of updating and adding to do to the Music Page.

There will be much more as I can add it. And I will soon. (I'm eager. Chaffing at the bit.)

Also, be sure and check out, as well as keep an eye on, Sales & Features - find a sampling of what's available for School & Fall (cool-weather wear, etc.), as well as some of the new merchandise.

Blowing in the Wind [Instrument]

The graphic. For the same reason the Circle of Fifths graphic was less than wonderful here was for the same reason. (I've got to work on improving this - as it nowhere near does justice to my graphic work.)

Again, click on the title above to get to these graphics and their merchandise. Note that there are two versions of this graphic: with a musical staff border (added by moi), and without. The "without" is shown at your left.

Aren't these guys funny? I got a big kick out of this old illustration the first time I saw it - and, I'm not even a wind player (well, a tiny bit of recorder and harmonica, but...you know...).

The New Circle of Fifths Graphic

Not only an attractive graphic, but a handy-dandy tool for musicians, composers, and songwriters.

Actually this graphic looks much better in real life, what I did here was link to a .jpg in my store.

(I'm still learning about posting pix into blogs...)

Anyway, click the title and it'll take you to the store C of 5s, where they look much better and, you can see what merchandise they're on.

Note that this graphic also comes in a plainer B&W version, a blue version, and a very colorful version with blue, green, and pink gradients.

Welcome to Music Stuff!

This blog will help me keep you posted (pardon the pun) as to what's up with my music merchandise - new products, store sales, etc.

I'll also keep you posted regarding the music pages on my website (http://www.carolynhmayer.com).
